Governor Dave Umahi has called on Nigerians from the South-East to persuade Peter Obi to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race, asserting that it is not the region’s turn to produce the nation’s president.
Speaking during an inspection of the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, Umahi highlighted what he described as unprecedented contributions by the administration of President Bola Tinubu to the South-East. He cited federal appointments, major road projects, and other infrastructural investments as key examples of the region’s gains under the current government.

“President Tinubu has delivered unprecedented benefits to the South-East, including critical appointments and major road infrastructure. Nigerians in the region should recognise these efforts and respond by supporting him,” Umahi said, urging that political loyalty should take precedence over regional sentiments.
Umahi’s comments are likely to intensify discussions around zoning and political alignment in the South-East ahead of the 2027 elections, with party loyalty and regional expectations emerging as key factors in shaping voter preferences.
