The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reactivated the portal for uploading the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, a critical step for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.

The announcement was made via JAMB’s official X account on Tuesday, August 20, 2025.

“Dear UTME candidates, this is to notify you that the upload of the 2025 WAEC result has been reactivated. Kindly visit any of our accredited facilities near you to access the service. Thank you,” the board stated.

Uploading O’level results remains a mandatory requirement for admission processing. JAMB relies on the data to verify candidates’ academic performance before forwarding admission lists to universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

Candidates who fail to complete the process risk exclusion, regardless of their UTME scores.

To avoid errors and fraud, JAMB urged candidates to carry out the upload strictly at accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres and official facilities across the country.

The reactivation follows the board’s temporary suspension of the upload portal on August 14, 2025, due to technical issues. The shutdown was prompted by the West African Examinations Council’s (WAEC) revision of the 2025 WASSCE results, which had been initially released with major errors.

The suspension delayed admission processing for 2024/2025 UTME candidates who had already uploaded their earlier results. JAMB explained that the pause was necessary to ensure that only corrected and verified results were reflected in its database.

WAEC’s initial release on August 4 indicated a steep drop in performance, with only 38.32% of candidates obtaining five credits, including English and Mathematics. This sparked national concern.

However, a subsequent internal review revealed a technical fault linked to a wrongly serialized code file that distorted grading in core subjects such as Mathematics, English, Biology, and Economics.

Corrected figures released later showed significant improvement: 62.96% of candidates (1,239,884 students) obtained at least five credits, including English and Mathematics. 91.14% secured credits in five subjects, with or without the two compulsory subjects.

191,053 results remain withheld over malpractice allegations.

The WAEC disruption formed part of a wider wave of system downtimes among Nigeria’s examination bodies in 2025. The National Examinations Council (NECO) also suspended operations nationwide for scheduled maintenance after a series of unplanned technical failures disrupted registrations and result verification.

The series of disruptions temporarily delayed admission processes, as tertiary institutions rely on JAMB’s central admission processing system (CAPS) for final clearance of candidates.

With the reactivation of the WAEC result upload, JAMB said admission processes for the 2024/2025 academic session are expected to resume in full swing.
