The Lagos State gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr Abdul-Azeez Adediran, also called Jandor has donated the sum of N500,000 to Abesan Estate Residents Association, a group of residents in a community located in Alimosho area of Lagos State, for the construction of a statue in honour of the late Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande.

Jandor who flagged off his campaign on Wednesday made the pledge towards Abesan Estate Residents Association’s plan to erect late Alhaji Lateef Jakande’s statue in the estate, ahead of its 40 years anniversary.

During the governorship candidate’s meeting with the members of the Association, he told them that as a grassroots leader he had come to interact with them and know the problems that they are facing so as to enable him contribute to making life meaningful for them, stressing that everyone would be a stakeholder in his government when he emerges the governor in 2023.

While relating the challenges that they have in the estate, the president of the association, Michael Kehinde stated that the major challenge that they have is in the area of security.

“We are putting across to you the security issue which is our major concern. We are also challenged with infrastructure decay in this estate.  We need support for education also.

He added, “The environment is porous and there is no security in this estate. When the major road was bad, the government diverted traffic to the estate and after it fixed the road it still did not close the road and thereby made the estate porous.

“We have a plan to celebrate the 40 years anniversary of this association in December and one of the projects that we have ear marked is to erect a statue in honour of the late Governor of the state, Alhaji Lateef Jakande,”  he said.

Kehinde, who assured Adediran of support of his members in the forthcoming election. commended Jandor for his generosity towards the donation for the erection of Jakande’s statue  and his promise to meet their other needs when he becomes the governor.

Responding, the PDP candidate said that if he wins the election, efforts would be made to address challenges facing the estate and the entire state, pointing out that he would  work with the association’s leadership.

“My government will be in partnership with the people,” he said.

The visit of the governorship candidate also afforded the community an opportunity to have a very important basic infrastructure in the community, through the support of Otunba Segun Adewale, popularly called Areoland, who is also the Lagos West Senatorial candidate of the PDP in the coming election, who promised to construct a borehole in the estate.
