President Joe Biden has access to a couple of new buses known as Ground Force One, which cost a shocking $1.1 million per unit. So why is Ground Force One so expensive? This article will detail two reasons why. Let’s get started.
Massive upgrades
The first reason why Biden’s new bus cost so much is that it has a lot of upgrades, some of which we have no idea. Remember that these buses carry the president and possibly cabinet and family members. Therefore, it makes a lot of sense for it to be upgraded far beyond the capability of the typical interstate bus. Biden’s Ground Force One has updates like state-of-the-art communication technologies that let him constantly keep in touch with everyone and every agency.
Also present at the front and back of these massive buses are police lights that let everyone know they are not ordinary buses. The buses are also heavily armored and should be able to shrug off all attacks by adversaries armed with missiles and heavy cannons. Ground Force One features fire suppression systems and is designed to resist chemical weapon attacks. Tanks of oxygen for breeding purposes when the outside air is contaminated and bags with the president’s blood in case of medical emergencies necessitating blood transfusion are also featured.
Only Two Ground Force One Exists
Currently, there are only two Ground Force One in use rather than a fleet that would have lowered the overall cost. And there are apparently no plans to buy more. The current buses came to us during the tenure of President Barack Obama, and he used them to campaign in rural and remote areas for his reelection. Ground Force Ones are perfectly suited for such a role and enable the Secret Service to move with the president securely and comfortably in areas where the roads aren’t always up to scratch.
The buses were bought from Hemphill Brothers Coach Company in Tennessee though the shells were made in Canada by a Quebec firm called Prevost and modified according to strict requirements. It’s painted a scary black, measures 11 Feet Two inches high, 45 feet long, with 505 cubic feet of interior space. Ground Force One are essentially rolling houses, offices, and command centers whose look is anything but intimidating. There you have it.
