A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has dismissed as baseless and unserious the reports suggesting a political alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to recent media claims, Atiku Abubakar—who ran for president under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 polls—is allegedly in talks with Obi to form a joint presidential ticket.
The reports speculated that Obi had agreed to run as Atiku’s running mate, with the understanding that Atiku would serve only one term if elected.

Reacting to the development on Monday via a post on his official Facebook page, Joe Igbokwe, a staunch supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, strongly criticized the purported political arrangement.
He described the reported alliance as a “childish and primitive deal,” branding it as a sign of desperation.
“Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s childish and primitive deal with the Labour Party is laughable and kindergarten,” Igbokwe wrote. “It is an act of desperation. It cannot fly and it cannot sell.”
Igbokwe’s comments underscore the skepticism within APC ranks regarding any potential political merger between leading opposition figures as the 2027 race begins to take shape.
Both Atiku and Obi are yet to officially respond to the claims or confirm any political collaboration.
