An ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo, and some security officials have discovered another 42 points in Delta and Baylesa State that some individuals use to illegally steal oil. These 42 points are located in areas where oil pipelines were located. Joe Igbokwe, who is the special assistant to the governor of Lagos state on drainage related issues, went to his official Facebook page to express his dismay over the illegal act.
He explained “I’ve heard that the federal government has discovered 42 additional tapping spots on the oil pipelines that run throughout the country in the states of Delta and Bayelsa, bringing the grand number to 58. This is inconceivable and completely unbelievable. How did we get here?”
In the course of addressing the matter, the ex-militant reveals that the most recent discoveries of tappings bring the total number of tappings that they have found in the previous three days up to 58.
Recall that the managing director of the national petroleum company, Mele Kyari, had earlier stated that Nigeria was losing an alarming 600,000 barrels of oil every day according to Tompolo, and that he had stated that they would continue to work with the security team to ensure that every oil theft channel is detected and exposed. Joe Igbokwe posed a very important question when he stated that it is hard to believe that there are still individuals who have the guts to steal from the government in its current form.
