Rumours have emerged that the African Cup of Nations might be cancelled due to a new Covid wave.
Jurgen Klopp tends to be vocal on those matters but this time, he’s shown restraint.
“I have nothing to say,” the Liverpool boss told a press conference. “The real authorities have to decide these kinds of things, I have no idea what the situation is around the world exactly. That is how it is.”
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita are the players who are due to travel to Cameroon for the competition as things stand.
There’s no clarity even over the date when they expected to leave the club, as Liverpool are reported to be in the talks over postponing the departure.
“We don’t know [when the players leave],” Klopp added. “We don’t know exactly.
“There will be a moment when the national coaches announce their plans and we will try to be in conversations, but the decisions will be made somewhere else and we have to wait for that.”
The current plan for the Reds’ stars is to leave on December 27 but Liverpool want them to stick around until January 2 when they are taking on Chelsea in a key Premier League clash.
