The two Labour centres, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress have declared an indefinite strike, beginning October 3rd, 2023.
Both Unions dropped the information on Tuesday, shortly after their National Executive Council meetings in Abuja.
NLC President, Joe Ajaero who spoke first, during a joint press briefing in Abuja said an indefinite strike became inevitable owing to the government’s lackadaisical stance in meeting demands raised by both unions.
To this end, Ajaero said the executive councils of both unions, having taken into consideration the stance of the government in the wake of the subsidy removal policy, left them with no option but to call for an indefinite strike.
On his part, President of the Trade Union Congress, Festus Osifo said they resolved that beginning from October 3rd all workers are expected to withdraw their services.

Leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), conducted a joint press conference where the decision to go on indefinite strike was taken.
It was reported that leaders of the 2 two labour unions have settled their disputes, which caused only the NLC to go on a 2-day warning strike without the cooperation and participation of the TUC.
Following their separate organs’ meetings, the 2 centres announced an indefinite nationwide strike in response to the Federal Government’s failure to address the suffering and other socioeconomic hardships caused by the removal of subsidies on Premium Motor, PMS, commonly known as petrol.
