The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday shutdown activities, adjourning till June 7, to allow members to participate in party primaries and other engagements leading to the 2023 general elections.
President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, said the adjournment is necessary to allow lawmakers the opportunity to pursue their electoral goals.
While extending good wishes to colleagues running elective positions, Lawan urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be fair in conducting the upcoming.
He also asked the Commission to ensure that the integrity of the exercise is not called to question, noting the need for all hands to be on deck towards a peaceful election.
