KADUNA: Bill to appropriate N73.5bn for 23 LGs passes 2nd reading.
A bill for a law to appropriate over N73.5 billion for the 23 Local Government Councils of Kaduna State has passed the second reading on Tuesday.
Speaking at the plenary session, the Deputy Speaker, Mr Isaac Auta, who presided, said the house received a message from the Executive asking the house to make provisions for the councils.
Consequently, the house set aside its rules to deliberate on the bill.
“It’s one of our duties to appropriate funds for the 23 local government councils of the state.
“They need the funds to enable them to carry out constitutional functions in their various local government areas,” Auta said.
Contributing, Alhaji Yusuf Salisu, representing Kawo constituency, urged the lawmakers to critically examine the budget to ensure that it would impact on the lives of the rural people.
Salisu also proposed that the bill be sent to the appropriate committees for an indepth study.
Also, Abdulwahab Idris, representing Ikra constituency, moved a motion for the bill to be referred to the relevant committees, which was adopted by the house.
The deputy speaker directed the committees to study the bill and report back to the house on March 1 and adjourned sitting to that date.
