A lawyer identified as Barrister Abdulsalam Ginsau from Kano State has reportedly died after becoming trapped in a lift at a hotel in Abuja.

Details surrounding the circumstances of the incident were still unclear as of the time of filing this report. However, sources indicate that the deceased was stuck inside the hotel elevator for an extended period, leading to his death by suffocation.

The tragic development has sparked reactions on social media, with some Nigerians raising concerns about possible power supply interruptions or technical faults in the building’s lift system.

Former federal lawmaker and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Shehu Sani, confirmed the incident in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, describing it as deeply unfortunate.

“The case of Barrister Abdulsalam Ginsau from Kano is very pathetic. He was trapped in an Abuja hotel lift, and he suffocated to death,” Sani wrote.

He questioned the possible cause of the incident, asking whether there was a power failure that halted the lift midway, a technical malfunction, or whether it was simply an unfortunate tragedy.

“Could it be that the power supplying the lift ceased midway, or the lift had technical issues or was just a tragedy of fate? May his soul rest in peace, Amen,” he added.

As of press time, authorities had not released an official statement detailing the cause of the incident or confirming whether investigations had commenced.

The development has renewed concerns about building safety standards, maintenance culture, and emergency response mechanisms in public facilities, particularly in high-rise buildings and hospitality establishments across the Federal Capital Territory.
