Did you know that there is a town in Northern Nigeria where only female rule under their monarchy system?
This may be sounds surprising to the readers, as by expectation and according to many cultures especially in the North, Women are somehow considered as the weaker sex, therefore, not considered to rule especially under a monarchy system.
But contrary to that, Dingep kingdom in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa state, in the northeastern part of Nigeria has been ruled by women for more than 7 centuries, a situation that differs Dingep Kingdom from other kingdoms in the northern part of the country.
According to a report by the bbc hausa, the town has a population of over 500 people, and the Queen administers all the functions of the traditional male rulers in some kingdoms.
But however, in the southern part of Nigeria, this situation is not a new development for the womenfolks, as there exist some traditional rulers who happens to be Women.
For example, HRM Moyinoluwa Olubunmi Falowo, is a regent at Ibule in Ifedore local government area Ondo state. HRM Tinuade Babalola Adejuiyegbe is the Oluborapa of Ibroropa in Akoko, also in Ondo state, and Regent Tejumade Falade Adeboye, who is the Odopetu of Akure kingdom.
