Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has dismissed speculation linking him with a summer move to Real Madrid, describing the rumours as “nonsense” while leaving the door open for a potential return to coaching.
The 58-year-old, who stepped down from Liverpool FC at the end of the 2023–24 season, now serves as head of global football for Red Bull. He had recently been linked with a possible replacement role for Álvaro Arbeloa at the Spanish giants.
Speaking at the Magenta TV World Cup team presentation in Munich, Klopp firmly dismissed the reports.
“If Real Madrid had phoned, we would have heard about it by now. But that’s all nonsense. They haven’t called even once, not once. My agent is there—you can ask him. They haven’t called him either,” he said.
While ruling out an immediate return, Klopp admitted he is not entirely done with coaching.
“For my age, I’m quite advanced in life, but as a coach I’m not completely finished. I haven’t reached retirement age. Who knows what will happen in the coming years? But there’s nothing planned,” he added.
However, Klopp was unequivocal about his future in England, insisting he would never manage another Premier League side apart from Liverpool.
“What I know definitely is that I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool—100%. That’s not possible,” he stated.
During his nearly decade-long tenure at Liverpool, Klopp guided the club to UEFA Champions League glory in 2019 and ended a 30-year wait for a league title in the 2019–20 season. He also won the FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.
Before his move to England, Klopp enjoyed success in Germany, winning back-to-back Bundesliga titles with Borussia Dortmund in 2011 and 2012, and previously managing Mainz 05.
