Kogi State Governor swears in new Local Government Chairmen

Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has officially sworn in the newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen of the 21 local government areas, urging them to prioritize transparency and community engagement.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Government House in Lokoja and was attended by various dignitaries, including state officials, traditional leaders, and community representatives.

Governor Ododo emphasized the critical role local governments play in the overall development of the state, noting that they are the closest tier of government to the people.

In his address, the governor called on the new chairmen to sustain the momentum of development at the grassroots level.

He urged them to initiate and implement projects and programs that directly enhance the quality of life for their constituents. “Your tenure is an opportunity to justify the autonomy of local government administration by prioritizing initiatives that positively impact the lives of the people,” Ododo stated.

The governor also highlighted key areas for focus, including health care, agricultural development, social welfare, and empowerment initiatives.

He urged the chairmen to take proactive measures to ensure the security of lives and property in their jurisdictions, reflecting his administration’s commitment to safeguarding communities.

Ododo further encouraged the new leaders to foster inclusivity by engaging with all stakeholders in their decision-making processes.

He emphasized that local government administration should not only be visible but also impactful, aligning with his administration’s policy to bring governance closer to the people.

In response, Tosin Olokun, the chairman of Yagba West Local Government Area, spoke on behalf of the 21 local government chairmen.

He expressed their commitment to complementing the state government’s efforts through transformative projects and programs.

Olokun assured the governor that they would prioritize unity among residents, regardless of political affiliations, echoing the administration’s vision for a cohesive and development-focused Kogi State.
