CP Abba Kyari had a ball sitting through the investigative sessions probing his complicity in an international cyber-fraud scheme in 2020 that blew up in July.
But IGP Baba Usman frowned on the findings and recommendation of the panel.
“The panel concluded its investigation and submitted its report to the IG last Thursday or Friday but the IG rejected it,” a report by the Punch quoted a source as saying.
Usman has yet to take a position on the final report.
Even at that, the police boss lacks the authority to decide what becomes of Kyari in the allegation the FBI made against the Intelligence response Team ex-leader.
The National Daily earlier reported the Police Service Commission has declared itself the final judge who can keep or fire or hand over Kyari to the FBI.
The path to extraditing Nigeria’s most decorated cop to the US over the allegation is tortuous.
Justice Minister Abubakar Malami has said due process will prevail. An FBI extradition request will go through Nigeria court system, first, he said.
No fewer than 31 layers from the north have teamed up to defend Kyari.
Abbas, aka Hushpuppi, is in the US jail , and may likely face up to 20 years in prison for defrauding a Qatari businessman of over $I million in 2020.
He allegedly paid Kyari to keep in custody one of the fraudsters who was about to blow the whistle on the cyber-fraud ring.
