The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has joined the global community to celebrate women as part of activities marking the International Women’s Day, paying tribute to their contributions to families, communities and the broader economy.

In a statement issued on behalf of the party by its Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC commended women around the world for their resilience, dedication and critical role in driving social and economic development.

Oladejo described women as the backbone of society, noting that their impact spans leadership, entrepreneurship, governance and community development.

The party stated that successive APC-led administrations in Lagos have implemented deliberate policies and programmes aimed at empowering women and expanding opportunities for them to thrive.

According to the statement, the government has over the years introduced reforms and initiatives focused on promoting gender equality, protecting women’s rights and strengthening their participation in governance and economic activities.

“As a progressive party, the Lagos APC is proud of the deliberate policies and sustained efforts of successive APC-led administrations in Lagos State aimed at empowering women and expanding opportunities for them to thrive,” Oladejo said.

The party highlighted what it described as strong female representation in governance within the state, noting that Lagos remains one of the states with a high number of women occupying key positions in public service.

According to the party, this reflects its belief that inclusive leadership leads to stronger governance and better policy outcomes.

The APC also pointed to various empowerment programmes targeted at women entrepreneurs, traders and artisans across the state.

It said thousands of women have benefited from government-backed initiatives including microcredit schemes, skills acquisition programmes, capacity-building workshops and cooperative support systems.

The party noted that these interventions have supported women operating in markets, small businesses and the creative sector, helping to boost household incomes and contribute to Lagos State’s economic growth.

The statement further highlighted policies aimed at protecting women and improving their welfare, including programmes addressing domestic abuse, expanding healthcare access and promoting girl-child education.

According to Oladejo, social intervention initiatives have also provided support for vulnerable women and families, helping them improve their livelihoods and wellbeing.

Women involved in sectors such as agriculture, technology, education and the creative economy have also benefited from training programmes, grants and innovation support initiatives designed to unlock their potential and encourage enterprise.

The Lagos APC reiterated that women’s empowerment remains a key pillar of sustainable development and pledged to continue supporting policies that promote gender inclusion.

“On this International Women’s Day, the Lagos APC reaffirms its resolve to continue supporting policies that promote women’s participation in governance, strengthen economic opportunities for women, and ensure that every girl has the opportunity to achieve her dreams,” Oladejo said.

The party also praised women across Lagos and Nigeria for their courage and contributions to nation-building.

“To every woman across Lagos State and Nigeria, we celebrate your courage, resilience and outstanding contributions to our society. Your role in building stronger families, communities and institutions remains invaluable,” the statement added.
