The Lagos State House of Assembly has passed the bill establishing Lagos State University of Education.
The House passed the bill after adopting the report presented by Hon. Ajani Owolabi Chairman House Committee on Education (Tertiary Institutions).
It would be recalled that the House Committee On Education ( Tertiary Institutions) few months ago held a public hearing on the establishment of the education university where stakeholders aired their views and opinion on the bill.
The University of Education, Lagos Bill, 2021, titled,” A Bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the University of Education Lagos (UNEDLAG) and for connected purposes” was altered to read Lagos State University of Education LASUED at the committee of the whole.
However, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa who presided over the plenary, noted that there is need to be conscious of how clauses in reports are couched and so directed to be reframed to avoid ambiguity.
LASUED by the provisions would leverage on two existing institutions, now to be harnessed into a multi-campus.
While  Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (ACOED) in Ijanikin houses the main campus, the Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPEC) in Noforija Epe would accomodate the satellite campus.
After deliberation and basic amendment to certain sections of the committee’s report,  its recommendations was later adopted as the resolution of the house.
The bill was later read for the third time by the Clerk of the House, Barr. Olalekan Onafeko.
Obasa who took a voice vote to affirm the process, thereafter directed the Clerk to forward a clean copy to the Governor for his assent.
