The Lagos State Government on Monday intensified its enforcement drive against illegal street trading as its task force team dislodged traders operating around the popular 2nd Rainbow Junction, inward Mile 2.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who disclosed the operation in a post on his official X handle at 10:11 a.m., said the traders were constituting both environmental and traffic hazards.
“Good morning Lagos. Our enforcement team is currently dislodging illegal street traders constituting nuisance at 2nd Rainbow Junction, inward Mile 2,” Wahab wrote.
According to him, the traders’ activities not only obstruct the free flow of traffic but also put pedestrians at risk and contribute to indiscriminate littering of the environment.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring safety, cleanliness, and orderliness on Lagos roads.
“We remain committed to keeping our roads safe, clean, and free of all forms of environmental infractions,” the commissioner added.
The enforcement aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration’s renewed drive to restore environmental discipline across major markets, highways, and junctions in the state.
The commissioner accompanied his message with the hashtags #CleanerLagos and #GreaterLagos, reinforcing the government’s ongoing campaign for a more sustainable urban environment.
