The episode of the plot by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has continued unfold revelations of the role of certain politicians in Kwara State may have been playing behind the scene. The revelations subsequently precipitate indices of political animosities and desperations in the preparations for the 2019 general elections within the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The compendium culminated into the explanation by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in a bid to exonerate himself from complicity in the cult boys arrest in Kwara. Lai Mohammed debunked the accusation that he orchestrated the recent arrest of some youths in Kwara South by the Police.

The minister in a statement by his Special Adviser, Segun Adeyemi, in Abuja, declared that he “vehemently rejects this accusation” levelled by Kwara South Youths Stakeholders, and further stressed that he had nothing to do with the arrest of the youths.

Lai Mohammed acknowledged that contrary to the allegation by the stakeholders, the arrest had nothing to do with the Ward Congress in his hometown of Oro.

“After all, suspected cultists were also recently arrested and paraded by the police in Ilorin.

“The police, in the exercise of their constitutional responsibility, do not need to be goaded by anyone to carry out arrests where necessary,” he said.

The minister, however, stated that he had made his observations on the outcome of the election in his Oro Ward 2, known to the appropriate party authorities, in line with his strong belief in the rule of law.

“Suffice it to say, however, that the only credible Ward election was the one held by the genuine party members in Oro Ward 2.

“That explains why, after the election, there was a rally around Oro Town that eventually terminated in my country home,” Lai Mohammed said.

He argued that that he did not believe there was any linkage between the election and the arrests.

The President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki and the Inspector general of Police, Ibrahim Idris, have been embroiled in controversy that the Police boss plots to transfer arrested cultists in Kwara to Abuja where they may be instigated to implicate the Senate President in their activities.  The Kwara State Governor, Ahmed Abdulfatah, also reiterated the Senate President’s accusation.

The Police, however, refuted the accusation, insisting, they must do their jobs of law enforcement in accordance with the rule of law irrespective of who is involved.
