The Lagos State Government has earnestly appealed to the young people in the state to consider enrolling in the military.
The Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, expressed this sincere request on Wednesday during the regular quarterly meetings held with the Chairman and members of the Police Community Relations Committee, known as PCRC, taking place in Ikeja.
During her remarks, Salu-Hundeyin emphasized the importance of national security, stating that it is a responsibility that everyone shares. She highlighted that joining the military is not merely a job but a valuable service to both the state and the country as a whole. It is vital for citizens to understand that their participation plays a crucial role in maintaining peace and safety within the nation.

She conveyed her disappointment over the low number of local youths from Lagos State who have chosen to enlist in the military, a concerning trend that was evident during the most recent recruitment drive. The situation is particularly alarming, as she noted that the federal government had specified that military recruitment should maintain an equitable ratio, with each state allocated 150 positions to fill in the military forces.
Mrs Salu-Hundeyin pointed out that Lagos State has been unfairly underrepresented in the military, with very few individuals from the state actively serving. This has created a significant gap, and she expressed a strong desire for this opportunity not to be missed by the indigenes of Lagos any longer. The government is keen to encourage more local youth to take part in this recruitment effort to ensure that Lagosians are adequately represented within the military ranks, thereby contributing to the overall security and stability of the nation.
