The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has issued a stern warning against attacks or obstruction of its enforcement officers in the line of duty.

The agency stated that individuals who assault, intimidate, or prevent its officials from carrying out their responsibilities will face the full weight of the law.

LAWMA’s warning comes amid increasing incidents of confrontations between enforcement officers and members of the public, particularly when officers attempt to enforce environmental regulations or sanction violators.

The authority emphasized that its enforcement personnel are carrying out legitimate duties aimed at maintaining cleanliness, proper waste management, and environmental sanitation across Lagos State.

Attacks on enforcement officers not only endanger their safety but also undermine efforts to ensure a clean and healthy environment for all Lagos residents.

LAWMA urged residents to cooperate with its officials and comply with waste management regulations rather than resorting to violence or obstruction when confronted about violations.

The agency warned that anyone found guilty of assaulting or obstructing enforcement officers would be prosecuted and could face criminal charges, including assault, obstruction of justice, and resistance to lawful authority.

Lagos State has laws protecting government officials performing their duties, and LAWMA appears determined to invoke these legal provisions to safeguard its personnel.

The authority called on the public to report any grievances or complaints through proper channels rather than taking confrontational actions against enforcement officers.

LAWMA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high environmental standards in Lagos while ensuring the safety and protection of its workforce.
