List of indigenous Inspector General of Police in post-independence Nigeria

From 1964 to 2024, Nigeria has had 22 respective indigenous Inspector General of Police in the post-independence era.

The longest serving Inspector General of Police was Kam Salem, who was in office for 8 years, 1966 to 1974.

The pioneer IGP was Louis Edet, 1964 to 1966; followed by Kam Salem, 1966 to 1974; while the current IGP Kayode Egbetokun, 2023, is the 22nd IGP in post-independence Nigeria.
