The Labour Party candidate for Edo North Senatorial District, Anslem Eragbe, at the Edo North Senatorial District stakeholders meeting in Abuja, promised to revamp Nigeria’s educational sector and eliminate industrial action through legislation if elected in 2023.

Eragbe said he is a product of free and quality education offered by the government during his time, pledging to restore the education standard and opportunities of the past.

Eragbe had highlighted: “I benefitted from the free compulsory and qualitative education and I am better off today because of the education I received from this country.

“My education policy is to gradually return Nigeria within the first four years to that glory.

“We will require legislative approval and by the grace of God, when I become a senator, this will become my legislative duty and I will engage legislators to ensure that we make legislative laws to achieve all these.”

Eragbe said this would be achieved through partnership between government and the private sector.

Hye assured: “We will be coming from the private sector with 150 billion euros to enable the Federal Government of Nigeria to intervene in the oil, mining, housing and agricultural sectors.

“We will revamp the oil sector, agriculture, education, healthcare among others: we will intervene at all levels.”

Eragbe added that there would be a policy which would require legislative approval to clear the backlog of payment of pensioners as well as rejig the economy for job creation among others.

He added that there would be massive capacity building for Nigerians in order to harness the natural resources in the country effectively.

He said he reeled out about 18 items that he would engage legislative duties bills to provide enabling laws for.

According to him, as Labour Party and as individuals, “We are committed to building the capacity of Nigerians to move to the next level, particularly in leadership.”

The keynote Speaker, Prof. Fetus Uwakhemen, Director-General, Comrade Eragbe Anslem (CEA) 2023, said youths have the ability to lead better if given the opportunity and Anslem can do it.

Uwakhemen, hose keynote address was themed “Repositioning the Socio-political and Economic Landscape of Edo North Senatorial District from 2023-2027, called on Edo North Senatorial District constituents to rally round the candidate of the Labour Party to clinch the ticket for better representation and leadership.

Uwakhemen had declared: “Only our generation can represent us properly because they understand our language, the world is in a digital age and we must align ourselves with leaders with easy accessibility and compliance with information technology.

“As we are now in digital age, I have seen many senators who have so many personal assistants because they cannot even type any letter or make any research. So, they rely on their PAs to do most of these things for them.

“That is why many things that ought to be done as a nation are left undone because the world now is no longer in analogue.

“We need men of such kind of skills to take us from where we are now to the next phase.”

According to Uwakhemen, the campaign is not about party politics, it is about Nigerian youths and Nigeria as a country.

He said that a lot of youths are travelling out of the country in search for greener pastures because the system is not helping them.

He added that the rate of unemployment in Nigeria is so high that the young ones leaving universities are not getting jobs.

He said the nation is losing its young ones, its intellectuals, doctors, ICT consultants, among others, running abroad to get something doing outside the country.

“We must stay back to fix our country by taking it back from older politicians.

“If civil servants are subjected to Civil Service Retirement Age at 60, lecturers and judges at 70. I believe those ages were arrived at because of certain modus operandi that has to do with physical stamina and intellectual ability to comprehend and do things that are to be done.

“It, therefore, goes to say that the older politicians should graciously allow their children and the younger ones to take over leadership positions and be responsible for their future while they play advisory roles from behind the scenes and not the other way round,” he said.
