Nigerian hip-hop artist, Jude Abaga, popularly known as M.I, has named veteran lyricist Mode 9 as the greatest Nigerian rapper of all time.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Hip-hop to Afrobeats podcast, the 44-year-old rapper praised Mode 9’s lyrical excellence and lasting influence on the Nigerian rap scene.
M.I described Mode 9 as the “most respected” rapper in the country, noting that his mastery of the craft has served as a benchmark for aspiring artists.

He added that Mode 9 played a significant role in shaping the careers of many Nigerian rappers, highlighting his consistency and dedication to hip-hop.
“Mode 9 is always going to be the most respected Nigerian rapper of all time because he is a rapper that, when you found him, you didn’t need to visit anybody else to improve your craft,” M.I said.
The award-winning rapper further hailed Mode 9 as a legend, citing his immense contributions to the growth and credibility of rap music in Nigeria.
