COVID Organics, the herbal drink said to be a cure for COVID-19 and launched in April in Madagascar is expected to land in Nigeria very soon, National Daily has gathered.

At least 55 COVID-19 patients in Madagascar have recovered after being treated with the country’s herbal remedy for the disease, according to a report by L’Express de Madagascar.

It was gathered that the consignment coming to Nigeria has been dispatched to Equatorial Guinea from where it will be shipped to Abuja.

According to reports, the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 was preparing to receive the solution in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.

The source said a decision will be taken when the herbal drink arrives in the country.

“Before any food or drug can be administered in this country, there are certain protocols that must be followed. The government will not circumvent these protocols. We want a solution; we want the best for Nigerians.”

Already, the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), other bodies and experts have advised that COVID Organics undergo further analysis.

Nigeria and other countries are awaiting the decision of Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention on the Madagascar drug.

The continental body is reviewing the scientific data on the safety and efficacy of the herbal solution.

Nigeria has recorded 4399 cases of coronavirus and 143 deaths.

Africa’s most populous nation recently declared that it was looking at the option of local/traditional antidote.

The Ooni of Ife, Enitan Ogunwusi, had said that Nigeria has the potential to find an effective remedy to kill the coronavirus.

However, three drugs have so far proven their potency against coronavirus.
