Mafia gang at work as EFCC denounces raid on Justice Odili’s residence

Some stakeholders in Nigeria are beginning the nurse the fear that there are emerging indicators of a mafia gang infiltrating the All Progressives Congress (APC) government led by President Muhammadu Buhari as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) denied involvement in the raiding of the residence of Justice Mary Odili by government operatives.

The EFCC Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwujaren, had denounced the reported raid on Justice Odili’s residence, insisting that no officer of the Commission was involved in raiding the Justice’s residence.

The EFCC was earlier reported to have raided Justice Odili’s residence in executing a search warrant in continuation of the investigation of the former Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili, husband of female Justice.

Chairman of the EFCC, Abdulrasheed Bawa, speaking on Channels Televise on Friday night, monitored from Lagos, declared that the commission never detailed any officer to raid the residence of Justice Mary Odili, warning that nobody should damage the good relationship the EFCC has with the judiciary. He affirmed that the action was not an EFCC thing.

The EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, also said that he has contacted other security agencies in the country, but none accepted responsibility of sending officers to enforce search warrant at Justice Odili’s residence.

This, some stakeholders in the country, argued generates suspicion that mafia gang could be operating in the Buhari administration. They said that such incident constitutes a serious danger in Nigeria’s security system and the federal government.

Bawa had stated: “None of our operatives was there. It is not an EFCC thing.

“I have called all the security and law enforcement agencies in the country, and they also denied that anybody has been sent to the house to carry out any search or arrest.

“A lot of people are trying to put us at loggerheads with the judiciary.

“And as you are aware, the work that we do, the judiciary is our biggest partner. They are just trying to cause problem where there is no problem.”

Meanwhile, the federal government has not considered conducting investigation into the invasion of the female Justice’s residence by state actors enforcing an illegal search warrant .
