The police, on Tuesday, arraigned a 20-year-old man, Damilola Sunday, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly being in possession of a stolen vehicle engine.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a one-count charge of being in possession of a vehicle engine alleged to have been stolen.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on Aug.20 about 02:00 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant had in his possession one vehicle engine suspected to have been stolen.
Oriyomi said the offence contravened Section 345 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable the police complete its investigation and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Gboyega Abiola, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Sept.30 for hearing
