Manchester City have become the first team to book a place in the semi-finals of this season’s FA Cup after a commanding 4-0 victory over Liverpool in Saturday’s opening quarter-final clash.

Pep Guardiola’s side delivered a clinical performance, overwhelming their rivals with attacking precision and defensive discipline to underline their status as strong contenders for the historic trophy.

The breakthrough came when Erling Haaland calmly converted from the penalty spot after Nico O’Reilly was brought down inside the box. The Norwegian striker doubled City’s advantage just before the interval, rising highest to power home a header and give the hosts firm control of the tie heading into halftime.

Haaland then completed his hat-trick in emphatic fashion, sealing a comprehensive win and sending a strong message to the remaining contenders in the competition.

The result sees Guardiola’s men advance as the first semi-finalists, while attention now shifts to the remaining quarter-final fixtures. Arsenal are set to travel to face Southampton, while Chelsea will host Port Vale as the race for the last four continues.
