Manchester United agree deal for Manuel Ugarte
Manchester United have agreed with PSG to sign Manuel Ugarte for an initial £42.2m, potentially rising to £50.7m with add-ons. Ugarte, who joined PSG last summer, has always wanted to move to Old Trafford.Manchester United have finalized an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for the transfer of midfielder Manuel Ugarte. The deal, valued at an initial £42.2 million with potential add-ons reaching £50.7 million, is expected to be finalized this week.
Ugarte, a highly sought-after talent, has been a top target for United throughout the transfer window. The Uruguayan midfielder is set to arrive in the UK for a medical and to sign personal terms.
PSG had initially sought the full £51.1 million transfer fee they paid Sporting Lisbon last summer, but both clubs ultimately agreed on a compromise to facilitate the deal. United is reportedly satisfied with the terms of the agreement.
Ugarte’s transfer comes just a year after PSG acquired him from Sporting Lisbon. The midfielder has expressed a strong desire to join United this summer, and personal terms were never a major obstacle in negotiations.
While there were discussions regarding a loan move with an obligation to buy, both clubs ultimately agreed on a permanent transfer. United’s recent sales of Facundo Pellistri and Hannibal Mejbri created the necessary space in Erik ten Hag’s squad for Ugarte.
Ugarte was not included in PSG’s match-day squad for their opening Ligue 1 game against Le Havre. His impressive tackling record, leading the French league in tackles last season, despite limited playing time, highlights his defensive prowess.
