Leicester City coach Enzo Maresca has hinted that Wilfred Ndidi could extend his stay at the club, National Daily Newspaper reports.

Ndidi, who has been heavily linked with several clubs, is one of the six senior players at the club whose contract expires at the end of the season.

According to the Leicester City Mercury, Maresca acknowledged his pivotal role during their English Championship triumph and plans to keep him at the King Power Stadium for next season.

Operating as a No.8, Ndidi featured prominently alongside Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall in midfield, amassing 36 appearances for the Foxes, notching six goals and providing six assists.

But the reports suggest that the Nigerian could be an option in the centre-back role.

“I’m thinking already about the future,” Maresca told Leicester City Mercury.

“It’s good to start thinking about how we could improve next season. Hamza could be an option there; Wout (Faes) could be an option; and Wilf (Ndidi) could also be an option to do that kind of job.”

However, with Leicester under a transfer embargo and needing special permission from the EFL to sign current players to new deals, it remains to be seen if Ndidi will remain at the club for the forthcoming season.

Since arriving at the King Power Stadium in 2017 from Belgian side Genk for a reported £15m, Ndidi has made 273 appearances across all competitions, scoring 17 goals plus 17 assists, National Daily Newspaper gathered.
