Mayhem  at Ijede, Egbin

Tension swept through Ikorodu town recently following a renewed attack by some youths suspected to be from Ijede town on Egbin community in the area.
During the hostilities, a middle aged man named Abbass Idowu, escaped death by a whisker after he was seriously brutalised during the attack.
National Daily gathered that the Lagos state government has made effort to find lasting peace to the recurring clashes between Egbin and Ijede communities, which have claimed no fewer than five lives. No end yet to the hostilities.
It was learnt that the Egbin community have been seriously affected as a result of massive destruction of their properties.
National Daily recalls that in December 2013, the state government made its decisions on the report of the panel of enquiry into the civil disturbances between the two communities.
The panel’s finding revealed that the two communities have settled in the area for a long time and intermarried albeit with one independent of the other.
It, however, recommended that the two Obas in the zone should recognize the independence of their communities and none should unsurp the power of the others.
National Daily, findings showed that government accepted the recommendation’s among others and immediately directed the ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs, in compliance with its statutory duties to exercise supervisory roles.
They further charged the ministry to work more closely with the Royal fathers to ensure that there is no unpleasant occurrences during installations of the monarchs in the area.
Reacting to the fresh hostilities, a foremost traditional ruler in the area, Oba Akeem Adeoriyom Oyebo, of Obateru told National Daily that the Lagos state government should come to their aid over the renewed hostilities between Ijede and Egbin.
He explained that no fewer than five persons have lost their lives and several properties destroyed from Egbin communities alone since the clashes began.
He added that the incessant clashes has prompted pupils and students from Egbin who attend school in Ijede community to stop for fear of being attacked.
