Black people have been through a lot of inequalities in all walks of their life and this has been going on for a long time.
People have been robbed of their opportunities and have been forced to be portrayed as drug dealers and violent characters in movies.
The recent event which led to the deaths of George Floyd, Tony McDade and Breonna Taylor has been so difficult to deal with but this is not a new thing in America.
Back in 2012, the slogan was used after the death of Trayvon Martin in Florida. The unarmed black 17-year-old was shot by neighbourhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman.
Large jewellers like IceBox and Johnny Dang, who are extremely famous for their customized pieces, did not come forward during these troubled times to support the black community.
On social media, Dang announced that he donated to the Floyd family, and Icebox posted a black square in solidarity with the movement; however, they seem to be unbothered as they are back to posting regular content without further assistance to the community nor have taken any major steps to highlight the importance of the culture in America’s development.
As a community that does not want these bad trails to pass onto their next generations, we need to take notes about the businesses which are supporting important causes which will make the future better.
“All these big-time jewellers in the industry who have profited in folds usually tend to take inspiration as well as business from our culture and community, but I haven’t noticed anyone giving back to the black community,” says Michael O, celebrity jeweller working for New York based store, NYC Luxury, who also goes by “Big Mike.”
Michael O describes himself as well read, sincere, & dedicated to doing the best to educate the consumer and provide the best customer service. He also focuses on providing the best craftsmanship along with providing the highest level of luxury without being obnoxious.
He is a well-travelled personality who is down to earth and a believer that we all are equal no matter that which race we belong to. He has also made a pendant related to the Black Lives Matter movement.
