The Nigeria Army has said the causes of frequent road accidents are majorly caused by drug abuse, advising that constant training and education of road users will checkmate the menace.
The Military said though the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), is doing all within its mandate to mitigate frequent road crashes, but stressed that more awareness for drivers cannot be overemphasized.
Speaking during a courtesy call by the Zonal Commanding Officer Federal Road Safety Corps, Assistant Corps Marshal Clement O Oladele on Friday at the 3 Division headquarters in Jos, the General Officer Commanding, 3 Division and the Commander Operation Safe Haven, Maj. -Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar, advocated the role of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency to arrest offenders.
“The key to ensure and achieve the safety of motorists and road users were education, training and constant awareness of road users. For this I stressed the need for strong synergy between the military and paramilitary agencies.
“Some road accidents are caused by drug abuse, which calls for the role of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency”, the Army boss said.

He continued: “The task of all agencies would be made easier by cooperation. The command philosophy of the leadership of the Nigerian Military was hinged on collaboration, synergy and jointness for improved performance to enhance National Security”, Gen. Abubakar said.
In his remarks, Oladele commended the timely intervention of the Army boss to security breach in Mangu Local Government Area of the State, affirming the commitment of his leadership towards strengthening the already existing relationship between the FRSC and the military in the State.
Gen. Abubakar however, reiterated that 3 Division will continue to partner with the Federal Road Safety Corps towards ensuring maximum safety on highways.
