Nollywood actress Bolatito Sowowunmi, popularly known for her role as “Miss Pepeiye” in the classic TV comedy Papa Ajasco and Company, has weighed in on the ongoing controversy involving her colleague, urging restraint and understanding within the industry.

In a lengthy post shared on Facebook, Sowowunmi made it clear that she would not join in criticising Wale Adenuga Productions, the producers of the long-running series.

She emphasized that the production outfit has played a significant role in nurturing and showcasing creative talents in Nigeria’s entertainment space.

According to her, the focus should not be on apportioning blame but on acknowledging the contributions made by industry pioneers. She noted that the current economic realities in Nigeria have made survival difficult for many, including those in the creative sector.

“They have done their part by creating a platform for creatives. It’s noble and appreciated. This is not the time for blame games. Everyone is pushing and doing their bit to survive, especially in a country like Nigeria where everything seems hard,” she wrote.

Sowowunmi also addressed misconceptions surrounding ownership of the popular “Miss Pepeiye” character. She clarified that she does not hold rights to the name, explaining that most of the show’s character identities are trademarked by the production company.

“Miss Pepeiye is not mine; it is a copyrighted brand name registered under Wale Adenuga Productions. Anyone playing that role at the time will have access to the name during their period of service,” she added.

Her comments come amid growing conversations about intellectual property rights, compensation, and welfare within Nollywood, with stakeholders calling for more transparency and improved support structures for actors and creatives.
