There appears to be a mix-up in the Labour Party (LP) in Enugu State over the party’s governorship candidate for the 2023 elections.
The State Chairman of Labour Party (LP) in Enugu, Casmir Agbo, on Wednesday, clarified the mix-up, saying that Chijioke Edeoga is the party`s governorship candidate in the state for the 2023 governorship election. he dismissed those conflicting reports on the authentic governorship candidate of the party in the state.
A Labour Party member, Everest Nnaji, had said that he is the authentic LP governorship candidate in Enugu State.
The State Chairman, however declared that at no time did Nnaji participate in any process as an aspirant, let alone being a candidate.
The State Chairman declared: “I want to say it clearly that, Edeoga is the sole candidate of the Labour Party in Enugu State and he has been issued with a certificate of return.
“Nnaji has never to the best of my knowledge, as the party chairman, purchased our party nomination form.
“I want to make it clear to the general public that Nnaji is not even a member of our great party.”
He said that the clarification became necessary to clear the speculations that the LP is in crisis over the governorship candidate.
According to him, “Our opponents are jittery, afraid of the rising profile of the party in the state, hence, they are doing everything possible to cause confusion.’’
