Veteran journalist and Ovation International publisher, Dele Momodu, has openly criticized President Bola Tinubu, accusing him of being surrounded by aides who are too afraid to tell him the harsh realities facing Nigeria.

Speaking during an interview with Arise TV, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain described Tinubu’s inner circle as “liars” who fail to acknowledge the country’s poor state of governance.

Momodu, a former presidential aspirant, shared a video of the interview on his X handle, expressing his concern that Nigeria has never been in a worse condition. He attributed the government’s failures to its continuous waste of resources.

Addressing the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests, Momodu stated, “Is there bad governance in Nigeria? Every Nigerian agrees on that.”

He went on to criticize Tinubu’s aides, claiming that while they may not voice their concerns directly, they privately grumble. “He is my friend, my big brother, and if anyone will deceive him, it won’t be me. I’ll keep telling him he’s surrounded by liars,” Momodu asserted.

Momodu also called for significant changes, urging Tinubu to merge ministries and cut down on excessive spending. He highlighted the need for the government to curb its lavish lifestyle and reduce unnecessary appointments, drawing a comparison to the ongoing protests in Kenya led by William Ruto.

He warned that if the government does not address the growing desperation in Nigeria, the situation could escalate, as seen in other countries.

“It’s not just about reducing entourage sizes; it’s about addressing the core issue of profligacy. When they say there’s no money, yet funds are available for politicians, it’s clear where the problem lies,” Momodu concluded.
