Morocco was thrown into turmoil on Sunday as protesters went on rampage across several cities in Moroccan in protest of high prices of goods in the country. Thousands of citizens took to the street agitating against rising prices of goods, in addition to the commemoration of the 11th anniversary of demonstrations that led to reform in Morocco.

Thousands of protesters complained of the high cost of basic goods with slogans reflecting the “February 20 Movement”.

The Arab Spring that pervaded the Middle East in 2011 gave rose to the pro-reform and anti-corruption movements.

The mass action assembled people in Casablanca and Tangiers who were passing their messages to the authorities through their slogans and display of placards.

Moroccans are having difficult time coping with high fuel prices and shortage of other commodities following the sinking economy and drought in the country.

The government had said that Morocco will need about 3.8 billion dirhams (over $400 million) to fund subsidies in 2022.

The protesters were vehement to demand that the government must act urgently to make the situation of life in the country better if they must avoid a repeat of the Arab Spring.
