During the investigation, officers received a call about a child’s body floating in the Aviara community river. Upon retrieval, the body was identified as that of Prevail Jonathan, confirming the worst fears of the complainant.

During interrogation, Blessing confessed to the heinous act. She admitted throwing her baby into the river out of frustration and shame caused by constant mockery from friends and peers.

She claimed they taunted her over the fact that the child’s father was unknown, a situation that reportedly drove her to commit the crime.

CP Abaniwonda stated that the suspect will be arraigned in court soon to face charges for her actions.

He also condemned the act, emphasizing the need for communities to address stigma and offer support to vulnerable individuals to prevent similar tragedies.

The Delta State Police Command has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any signs of distress or abuse in their communities to avert such heartbreaking incidents in the future.
