The National Assembly seeks to overrule laws on local governments made by states, which the Senate feels interfere with LG financial autonomy.
Senator Tony Okechukwu Nwoye, representing Anambra North in the National Assembly, moved a motion in the Senate against certain proposed bills by state governments.

These bills of certain states, according to the perception of the senate, seek to require LGAs to deposit a portion of their federal allocations into a centralized account controlled by the state.
Senator Nwoye, therefore, proposed that the Accountant General of the Federation should halt payments to states that interfere with the financial independence of local governments.
The Senator further proposed that the EFCC should enhance its oversight of local government funds to ensure these resources are deposited directly into the accounts of local governments, without being redirected to accounts managed by state governments.
