The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), under the strategic guidance of its Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Maida, is transforming Nigeria’s telecommunications industry through innovative policies, technological advancement, and regulatory efficiency.

Experts and stakeholders have lauded the commission’s efforts, which are positioning Nigeria as a leader in Africa’s digital economy.

Dr. Maida’s leadership has introduced bold reforms aimed at addressing long-standing challenges in the telecom sector, including network deficiencies, digital inclusion gaps, and affordability of services.

His tenure has emphasized fostering collaboration between government, private stakeholders, and international partners to create a robust telecommunications ecosystem.

“Dr. Maida is reimagining the future of telecoms in Nigeria,” said Mary Okafor, an ICT policy analyst. “His emphasis on broadband expansion and digital literacy is creating pathways for economic empowerment, especially in underserved regions.”

A cornerstone of the NCC’s strategy under Dr. Maida is the push for 70% broadband penetration by 2025, up from the current 47.1%.

Through initiatives like the Nigerian National Broadband Plan (NNBP) and targeted incentives for infrastructure deployment, the commission has enabled significant growth in connectivity, especially in rural areas.

“Broadband is the backbone of a modern economy,” noted telecom expert Adebayo Ilori.

“The NCC’s commitment to expanding fiber optics, reducing right-of-way costs, and introducing satellite connectivity in remote areas is a testament to Dr. Maida’s forward-thinking leadership.”

Under Dr. Maida, the NCC has redefined its regulatory approach, focusing on transparency, competitiveness, and consumer protection. New policies aimed at curbing unsolicited messages, improving call quality, and ensuring data security have garnered widespread praise.
