NDA train cadets to combat insurgents, bandits

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), has said the current cadets in camp is well equipped to counter insurgents and bandits currently ravaging the country

The NDA said there will be no safe haven for trouble shooters who do not want the country to be in peace by the time the current army cadets are integrated into the Nigeria Army.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday in Jos, at the final outdoor exercise for the cadets tagged Exercise Camp Highland, the Commandant of the Academy, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Manu Yusuf, reaffirms the military determination to end all forms of banditry, insurgency and criminality confronting the nation.

“This training will boost cadets capacity to deal with the current challenges of insurgency, banditry as well as future challenges” Gen. Yusuf said.

Our correspondent reports that the cadets have undergone map reading and are presently undergoing leadership and endurance training at Shere Hills in Jos North, Plateau State.

The exercise is designed to test the Cadets Leadership skills, Physical fitness, Map Reading, Command and Control capabilities among other military competencies.

“The exercise is also a major platform used to ascertain the level of preparedness of the final year Army Cadets before their Commissioning as Officers in the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“The cadet training has three major component, the academics, military training and the character development: the exercise in Shere Hills covers two major components majorly the military training and the character development”, Yusuf said.

On his part, the Coordinator, Citizenship and Leadership Training Center Shere Hills, Abdulmumuni Adamu, said the cadets will train in Shere Hills for five days and will undergo courses ranging from physical, mental, adventure and technical courses which will make them actively agile to fight insurgency.

Recounting his experience, Cadet Chisom Oliver, said he is excited to be part of the ongoing training, pledging commitment to dedicate his acquired skills to the service of the country.

This medium reports that the Exercise Camp Highland is for 68 Regular Course Army Cadets which commenced from 25 July to end 14 August 2021 and is holding in Plateau and Kaduna States respectively.
