The Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman PhD, on Tuesday shared her experience of accompanying the 2023 LP presidential candidate on solidarity visit to Niger State over the flood incident in Mokwa.
According to Usman @SenNenadiUsman
“Today, I stood shoulder to shoulder with our leader, Mr. Peter Obi, as we visited Niger State drawn not by ceremony, but by compassion.
“We went to witness the pain of our fellow Nigerians firsthand, and to offer the solidarity of the Labour Party to a people devastated by the recent floods in Mokwa.”
Usman lamented the unfortunate disaster, saying, “What we saw was beyond statistics, it was human tragedy laid bare.
“Over two hundred precious lives lost. More than a thousand persons still unaccounted for. Thousands displaced. Entire livelihoods swept away in the deluge. This is not just a local crisis; it is a national emergency. And in moments like this, we must abandon politics and embrace our shared humanity.
“But the truth is: Niger State cannot bear this burden alone. Nigeria must rise up to assist.”
The LP national chairman, therefore, declared: “I echo Mr. Peter Obi’s call to the Federal Government, to humanitarian agencies, and to every Nigerian of conscience: now is the time to act. Relief must flow not just from policy, but from empathy. Support must come not just in words, but in deeds.
“As Acting National Chairman of the Labour Party, I reaffirm our party’s unwavering commitment to a Nigeria where governance is responsive, infrastructure is resilient, and disaster does not mean despair. We will continue to press for policies that protect our most vulnerable and prepare us for the challenges of climate and crisis.
“To the families mourning loved ones, to those still searching for the missing, to the many forced from their homes, our hearts are with you.
“May the souls of the departed find rest. May the missing be found; And may healing begin, powered by the unity and compassion of the Nigerian spirit.”
