New commander appointed for Tincan Island Port Strategic Command

Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has announced the appointment of Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju as the new Commander of the Tincan Island Port Strategic Command in Lagos.

Ofoyeju, who previously served as the Agency’s spokesperson, brings a wealth of experience in media relations, drug law enforcement, and drug demand reduction to his new role.

His extensive background includes participation in various key committees, notably the special purpose committee for the 31st meeting of Heads of Drug Law Enforcement Agencies in Africa, hosted by Nigeria in Abuja in 2023.

Before this appointment, Ofoyeju was recognized as the Agency’s reform champion with the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council.

He also played a critical role in implementing the priorities of the Bola Tinubu-led administration.

His previous positions include Principal Staff Officer in the Chairman/CEO’s Office and Assistant Director of Planning at the NDLEA’s National Headquarters. Ofoyeju holds a degree in Mass Communication and a Master’s degree in Marketing.

In addition to his impressive credentials, Ofoyeju is a Master Trainer for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, specializing in Drug Prevention, Treatment, and Care, as well as a Master Trainer in Rights-Based Border Management through the International Organisation for Migration.

An accomplished author, Ofoyeju has penned works including “The Last Syndicate” and “A Dance Against Taboo.”

He has also undergone extensive training in security, investigation techniques, cross-border trafficking, and anti-corruption.

Ofoyeju takes over from Commander Aminu Abubakar and is expected to play a pivotal role in combating drug trafficking at one of Nigeria’s busiest ports.
