Niger allocates N822m to ward development projects

The Niger State Government says it has allocated N822 million to ward development projects across the 274 wards in the state.

The Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Phallalu Bako, said this on Thursday in Minna during a sensitisation tour by the state Ward Development Project Steering Committee to some traditional institutions.

Bako said that each ward would receive N3 million to implement locally driven projects identified by community leaders and residents.

According to him, the initiative was designed to empower communities to take ownership of their development priorities.

“Each of the wards will receive a sum of N3 million to implement locally driven projects identified by community leaders and residents,” he said.

He explained that the committee was engaging with traditional leaders and local stakeholders on the objectives and implementation strategy of the projects.

He assured the people that the steering committee would ensure transparency, community participation, and value for every kobo spent.

Also speaking, Hajiya Binta Mamman, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, commended Gov.Umaru Bago for the initiative.

She said that the initiative would alleviate the sufferings of women and boost productivity and socio-economic growth in the state.

In their separate remarks, the Emir of Lapai, Alhaji Umaru Tafida, Emir of Agaie, Alhaji Yusuf Nuhu and Emir of Suleja, Awwal Ibrahim, commended Bago for reviving the ward development.

They urged community leaders to ensure proper implementation and monitoring of the projects, calling for strict accountability measures to safeguard public resources.

The committee comprised senior government officials, party leaders, and representatives of key MDAs. (NAN)
