Nigerians have been thrown into deep mourning following the death of popular gospel singer and evangelist, Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye, widely known by her stage name Omije Ojumi.

The gospel artiste reportedly passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026, at a hospital in Lagos after a prolonged health challenge.

Her death was confirmed on Tuesday by fellow gospel musician, Ayo Melody, who issued a brief statement on behalf of the family via Instagram.

“With great sadness, we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye, popularly known as Omije Ojumi.

She passed away on January 12, 2026, at a Lagos hospital, Nigeria. May God grant her eternal rest,” the statement read.

Omije Ojumi rose to prominence in the Nigerian gospel music scene following the release of her hit song Omije Ojumi, from which she adopted her popular moniker.

The song, deeply rooted in Yoruba gospel expression, resonated widely with worshippers and helped cement her reputation as a passionate minister through music.

Prior to her death, the late singer had been battling a severe leg ailment, a condition she openly shared with the public while seeking prayers and divine healing.

Months before her passing, she made emotional appeals to fans and fellow believers to remember her in prayers.

A video that circulated widely on social media last year showed the gospel singer at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In the footage, she was seen seated with her affected leg stretched out on a chair as a pastor prayed for her healing, drawing sympathy and support from many Nigerians.

Tributes have continued to pour in from fans, colleagues and members of the Christian community, who have described Omije Ojumi as a devoted gospel minister whose songs inspired faith, hope and perseverance.

Her death marks a significant loss to the Nigerian gospel music industry, where she was celebrated not only for her music but also for her resilience and unwavering faith in the face of illness.
