The Nigerian Police Force has categorically refuted the authenticity of a leaked memo suggesting the removal of police officers from politicians.

In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police clarified that the memo was fake and did not originate from the NPF or any of its formations. The statement emphasized that the memo deviated from the standard telegraphic message structure and bore the irregular signature of a higher-ranking officer, further underscoring its dubious nature. The Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered a thorough investigation into the source of the memo and assures appropriate action against those responsible.

The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) recently addressed the circulation of a signal on social media, allegedly originating from MOPOL 45 FHQ ABJ, which ordered the removal of police aides from select top politicians and their relatives. The NPF, through its spokesperson CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, swiftly clarified that the signal was fake and did not emanate from the NPF or any of its formations.

The statement highlighted that the signal’s content deviated from the police’s standard telegraphic message structure and bore the signature of a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), which is highly irregular for such communications. Normally, a signal of this nature would be signed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) who heads the relevant formations. These discrepancies cast significant doubt on the memo’s credibility.

To address the situation promptly, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has ordered a thorough investigation into the source of the fake memo.

The statement assures the public that appropriate action will be taken against those responsible for its creation and dissemination.
