The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced that the officer previously reported as killed during the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests has “miraculously survived.”

On Thursday, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun had stated that a policeman was attacked and murdered amid what he described as “mass uprisings and looting” in major cities across the country.

The IGP cited incidents in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kaduna, Kano, and Gombe, where unprovoked attacks on security personnel were reported, resulting in the death of one officer and serious injuries to others.

In response to the unrest, the NPF placed all units on red alert, with officers fully mobilized to maintain public safety and order.

However, in a statement released on Saturday, police spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi clarified that the officer believed to have been killed had, in fact, survived the attack.

Adejobi noted that the policeman remains in critical condition, and added that nine other security personnel sustained injuries during the protests.

The police also reported the arrest of 681 suspects involved in various crimes, including armed robbery, arson, mischief, and the destruction of public and private property.

Since August 1, Nigerians have taken to the streets under the banner of “10 Days of Rage” to protest against bad governance.

The protesters are demanding a reduction in the size of government, the reinstatement of the petrol subsidy regime, food security, fiscal discipline, and other reforms.
