A Nigerian soldier on the frontlines has raised urgent concerns over the daily casualties faced by the country’s military, calling for enhanced support, better equipment, and improved strategic planning to protect troops.

Speaking exclusively from an operational theatre, the soldier described the immense risks confronting personnel engaged in ongoing security operations. He highlighted the physical and psychological toll of continuous combat, noting that frequent losses have significantly affected troop morale.

“The danger we face every day is real. Many of our colleagues are injured or killed in action, and it weighs heavily on all of us. We need adequate equipment, proper planning, and support from higher command to reduce casualties and protect lives,” the soldier stated.

Defense analysts say the soldier’s comments reflect longstanding challenges within the military, including insufficient logistical support, outdated equipment, and gaps in operational strategy.

Military expert Col. (Rtd.) Chukwuma Okafor commented: “Troops on the ground require modern equipment, timely reinforcements, and clear strategic directives. Failure to address these gaps contributes to preventable casualties and affects overall operational effectiveness.”

The soldier’s plea underscores the urgent need for comprehensive reforms in troop welfare and battlefield support, as Nigeria continues to face complex security challenges across multiple regions.

Officials from the Nigerian Army have acknowledged the ongoing challenges but stressed that efforts are underway to improve logistics, training, and operational coordination to safeguard personnel and enhance mission success.

Experts argue that addressing these issues is critical not only for protecting military personnel but also for maintaining public confidence in the nation’s security apparatus.
