Nigeria’s bodybuilder, Neziru Atsekomhe Adam from Edo state, has won big in Spain, bringing home an award from the 2021 IFBB World Championship held in Barcelona, Spain, between November 3 -5, 2021.
He described how the winner in the beginners’ bodybuilding category was selected.
“This category is for beginners bodybuilders since it was my first ever stepping on stage. It’s judged on three main criteria: muscle mass definition, symmetry and balance,” Adam said.
The five-foot-eleven athlete weighed 91kg on stage. “It’s tough to find the food needed for training, so I rely a lot on local ingredients like Garri and pounded yams,” says Adam.

His interest in bodybuilding began the moment he saw a gym for the first time: “There wasn’t a commercial gym nearby, so I built an entire gym out of concrete weights.”
Adam said he started bodybuilding to keep out of trouble.
“Having grown up in Auchi, in my compound, it was either football, excelling in school or doing whatever I could to stay out of trouble. I didn’t play much soccer, but I had an interest in bodybuilding, so I had something to do to focus my energy.” Adam said.
Adam is a personal trainer and owns a business called NezFitness. He takes in people who want to improve themselves physically or make changes in their lives and help them become the best versions of themselves.
Adam also works with sponsors and is available to a wide range of people to instruct them on incorporating healthy habits into their everyday lives.
