NIMC issues public advisory on NIN Self-Service portal access and unlinking procedures

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has released a public advisory outlining critical guidelines for accessing and modifying data through its National Identification Number (NIN) self-service portal. The advisory includes new restrictions tied to device and browser use, as well as limits on unlock attempts.

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) wishes to inform the general public of important guidelines regarding access to the Self-Service Modification Portal for the National Identification Number (NIN).

PRESS RELEASE

All applicants seeking to modify their NIN records via the self-service platform are hereby advised to take note of the following:

  1. Single Browser and Device Access:
    Each self-service account is uniquely linked to the browser and device used during the initial registration. Consequently, access to the account is restricted to that specific browser and device.

  2. NIN Record Modification:
    To successfully modify your NIN record, you must log in using the same browser and device used at the time of account creation. Using a different browser or device may result in restricted access.

  3. Cache Clearing Warning:
    Clearing your browser cache will reset the session and may cause your account to become locked. Should this occur, an unlinking process will be required to regain access.

  4. Unlock Attempt Limit:
    Once a browser and device are locked, users are allowed a maximum of five (5) unlock attempt requests. Please note that no further unlock attempts will be processed once this limit is exceeded.

These measures have been implemented to enhance security, protect user identities, and ensure the integrity of the self-service modification process.
